Question
In the year I leave the UK, am I entitled to a tax refund? (Jimmy, Reading)
Answer
As a general rule individuals who leave the UK part way through a UK tax year and who have been receiving a salary or wage under the UK PAYE system can obtain a repayment of tax from HM Revenue if they complete a form P85 and submit it to their employer's tax office with the form P45 they receive when their employment ceases. Form P85 can be obtained by typing the form number into the search box at www.hmrc.gov.uk.
