Deadly jellyfish close four Qld beaches
Four beaches in northern Queensland were closed Tuesday after a woman was stung, possibly by a potentially deadly jellyfish.
The 45-year-old woman was taken to Cairns Base Hospital in a stable condition after being stung by what authorities suspect was an Irukandji jellyfish.
She was stung at Cairns' Palm Cove shortly before 1.45pm (AEST).
Cairns Regional Council has closed Palm Cove, Ellis Beach, Clifton Beach and Kewarra Beach until further notice.
Irukandji jellyfish were blamed for the deaths in Australia of an American and Briton in Queensland in 2002.
The victims died from the so-called 'irukandji syndrome'. There is no antidote.
